Setting up a RegusDomain.com Email Account in Outlook Express
If this is the first time you've used Outlook Express or you don't currently have any other accounts under it, click
here
to skip to step 2.
Step 1
(Going to the Accounts menu)
Start Outlook Express (you can find it under the
Start
menu, or on Windows 98 or above on the "quick-launch" tray next to the
Start
button).
If it loads up immediately with "Internet Connection Wizard" and "Enter Display Name",
skip to step 2
.
Under the
Tools
menu, click
Accounts
.
Click the
Add
button, then
Mail
.
Step 2
(Adding a new account)
For
Display name
, enter the name (not the email address) you'd like to appear in the "From" line of yours emails. For instance, "John Smith" or "RegCA Sales". Click
Next
.
For
E-mail address
, enter the email address you'd like to use at your domain. For example: john@my-domain.ca, webmaster@my-domain.ca, info@my-domain.ca, etc. Click
Next
.
Set
My incoming mail server is
to
POP3
server. Set both
Incoming mail
and
Outgoing mail
to be your domain name. For example: my-domain.ca. Click
Next
.
If you've already set up an email address, enter it in as the
Account name
, and it's password for
Password
. If you haven't yet set up an email address (or you're using a MiniSite), put your domain name in for
Account name
.
Make sure
Secure Password Authentication
is NOT checked, then click
Next
.
Click
Finish
.
Step 3
(Enabling Outgoing Authentication)
Under the
Tools
menu, click
Accounts
.
Click the
Add
button, then
Mail
.
Click the
Mail
tab, then double-click on the email account you just created (it usually shows here as the domain name such as my-domain.ca).
Click the
Servers
tab, then under
Outgoing Mail Server
, check off
My server requires authentication
Some major ISP's (such as AOL,Sympatico,MSN,etc) block outgoing email. If you're using one of these providers, or you receive this error when trying to send an email:
The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'test@my-domain.ca'. Subject 'Test', Account: 'my-domain.ca', Server: 'my-domain.ca', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 5.7.1
... Relaying denied. IP name lookup failed [X.X.X.X]', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79
then: Click the
Advanced
tab. Change the
Outgoing mail (SMTP)
port from 25 to 26.
Click
Ok
, then
Close
.
